[ ooc; asgard: the guard ]

The Guard
In the time since the first Travellers were brought to Asgard, we have been set upon by all manner of attack, be it beasts of ice and fire or plagues of the body and mind. We have been met with hardship and strife, the likes of which could never have been foreseen, but we have held fast by the brave souls that would face all that comes to pass with their heads held high.
To these noble men and women, it is with every due honour and respect that I implore we band together and make the might of Asgard known. We have come across the high heavens to this place what turns boys into men, warriors into soldiers, and our strengths shine at their brightest when we stand together as one.
Ragnarok may not be our war, but it is the fight for our lives, and we will see it to the last. We fight not for the Gods, but for each other, for our family and our friends. We fight for you, Asgard, and all the Gods and Giants from this realm into the next shall know that you are defended.
We are the guardians of Asgard, and our time is now.
Our Purpose
The Guard is an organised body of soldiers whose sole purpose is to defend the city during times of need through whatever is required of them, be it fending off an invading army or fanning out during a crisis, like getting people to safety during the Darkness plot or distributing the immunisation during the Biological Warfare plot. The Guard will be split into Squadrons with a designated Captain, and all of those leaders will answer to Arthur, who will be in charge of the collection as a whole.
This collection of Travellers is an entirely volunteer-based community. Your character will have to want to be a part of this army in order to be a part of it, and we will never do a draft or anything similar. We are also in no way a body of government by any means. We will have no power to dictate the movement or actions of Travellers. To plagiarise myself a little bit, "Their one and only function would be to mobilise as a unit whenever the need arises to fight back what foul beasts set upon us by those rude Giants that hate happiness and sunshine and rainbows." That's all we're here for. :')
Functions
The Guard is an acting militia. It will require working with your squad and following orders from your superiors. You will be soldiers, not warriors, which means functioning as a unit rather than on individual skills and powers. You can expect your duties to be as follows:and for your benefit, so you will know Arthur's role in all this,
- Strategists
- information; you must remain updated with developments within the city and any new threats.
- meetings; you must attend twice weekly round table meetings with the Captains and General to deliver information and discuss plans/options for moving forward.
- cupcakes are not required but highly encouraged.
- Soldiers
- training; you will learn to fight alongside your squadron, including battle formations and teamwork.
- subordination; you will be under the leadership of a captain, you must be able to follow their instructions and guidance.
- dedication; you volunteered to defend the city, the people will depend on your loyalty. don't be a dick. :|
- Captains
- training; you will learn to fight alongside your squadron, as well as how to guide them through any battle instances.
- organisation; you will command a body of soldiers, and must keep track of their training/health/progress/etc.
- cooperation; you must be able to work with your squad, as well as the other Captains for coordination.
- meetings; you must attend twice weekly round table meetings with the other Captains and Strategists to stay informed on any developments and report to the General.
- optional; you may appoint a Vice Captain to your squadron that would assume your duties in the event you are unable to perform them. this is entirely optional, and all VC appointments need to be reported to me so I can list them here. it's mostly just so you don't have to feel obligated to keep your character alive to lead their squad 100% of the time. c:
- in the event of a Vice Captainship, the VC's duties would be to shadow the Captain and be capable of taking up their duties, and would report to both their Captain and the General. no throwing any coups!
- General
- captainship; he will be captaining his own squad, and thus responsible for the same duties listed above for the Captains.
- meetings; he will coordinate and monitor all round table meetings to ensure all voices are present and heard objectively, as well as residing over any disputes.
- management; he will keep track of all the Captains to ensure they are performing their duties and not abusing their power, as well as ensuring that all squadron needs are met in regards to weapons/supplies/etc.
- public relations; he will be the face of the Guard, and therefore address them whenever the need should arise. you guys fuck up, it's on his head, okay. :|
- overwatch/emergency reserve; he will keep track of all units' progress and orders in order to act on the behalf of the Captains/Vice Captains should they become unable to perform their duties.
- mediation; he'll work in conjunction with the Engineers and the Medic Corps to keep them up to date and involved with each other.
- what he will not be doing: commanding the Captains or their soldiers, dictating any movements amongst the militia, or acting without the express agreement of the round table folks. he is here 4 u guys.

OOC Information / Disclaimer
The first and foremost point that I want to establish is that this is by no means concrete. I don't want to dictate every single aspect of the Guard because it's not just me playing it, and I want you guys to be happy. If you don't like the way something is structured or anything like that, pleasepleaseplease talk to me about it and we can figure it out. I am more than open to criticism and ideas so that we can Guard your Asses to the best of our abilities.
That said, if you guys are ever unhappy with the way I'm doing things, I can always step down from showrunner and hand it off to someone else. This includes ICly for Arthur! He is not Asgard's King and I am not a perfect human being, so if you guys really want someone else to back this, I can work it out with the others and make sure it goes to someone that can do the job. I want this to be something for everyone in the game, so I'll do whatever I can to keep it working for you guys.
Other than that, this will take a lot of OOC effort to make work! A lot of the interaction can be assumed, as in the training and the meetings (unless you guys want to play them out, in which case, hit me up and we can set up logs!), but our characters will be preeetty busy ICly and that'll take some effort to coordinate between everyone! Any big decisions will be posted on the OOC comm for full disclosure, so people will know what's going on behind the scenes. I'm also going to do my best to keep up with the leaders of the Engineers, the Medic Corps and the District Watches.
Sign-ups are open always, so go ahead and respond here or drop me a line if you'd like to get involved! Thank you for all of your participation in this, even if it's just reading the post and not actually enlisting! ♥
And Hell yeah, Arthur's setting up a round table at the Citadel for their meetings. |D
Strategist Applications
Soldier Applications
loras is currently bracelet-less but here
House: Freya
Weapon of Choice: sword/mace
Power: power exchange
Preferred Squadron: doesn't matter!
Specialisation: Loras is just known for his fighting skills. I don't know if it would be a specialization, but he's considered the best knight in Westeros.
My plurk is bettiebloodshed
dammit loras, this is why we can't have nice things!

House: Heimdall
Weapon of Choice: Sword. I figure he's good with close-range weapons, and passably good with archery.
Power: Damage drain, level 1 currently.
Preferred Squadron: ...idk idk.
Specialisation: He's a decent swordsman and a damn good strategist (most of the time), and has experience with leading armies and winning battles before.
You can find me at

Re: Soldier Applications
House: Freyr, though he's been pretty much living by the forge.
Weapon of Choice: Hammers, but mostly he constructs things on the fly. Canonly he's put together a trap in two minutes flat with the right materials. Long range or short, he knows how to fight just the skill part with hammers eludes him.
Power: Drawing Life, level one.
Preferred Squadron: He'd prefer to stick to Percy, wherever he goes. Demigod bros.
Specialisation: Planning and defenses, as well as fortifications and warships. Leo isn't as experienced as the other two demigods, but he's successfully been on one quest where he fought the wind goddess and broken Hera free from a prison. He can quickly sort out what he has on hand to use and implements it into a weapon or defense in very little time.
Harder situations take a little longer, but he faces it all without flinching. In the course of a year with assistance of the rest of his god's cabin he built a flying warship complete with defenses and offensive cannons. with the other campers helped, he designed it. Give enough time, he can probably figure out what creatures can give him similar magical components to make the city walls that much harder to break through.
As I said before, combat wise he thinks first and acts second, but the speed at which he does so makes it deadly.
Captain Applications
sample application.
House: currently living in Thor.
Weapon of Choice: sword by default, though he's proficient in the crossbow, mace, battle axe, and various other weapons as well. Give him a weapon, he'll figure out how to use it.
Power: Damage Drain, level 3.
Leadership Experience: Arthur is the head of Camelot's army back home (though he reports to and operates under his King), and is thusly versed in all manner of strategies, mobilisation, and organisation. He's the leader of the Knights of Camelot as well, and is in charge of their training and assigning their duties to ensure the safety of the kingdom. As far as Asgard goes, he has put forth every effort to act swiftly and in conjunction with others during the Giants' attacks, coordinating group efforts on numerous occasions, which is what lead to his desire to establish the Guard in the first place. He wants to have an on-hand force ready to mobilise and defend the city whenever they should be needed, and will do whatever it takes to see Asgard's people safe.
Length of Residency: since 14th February!
Activity: here is my thread tracking/comment count for the past three months. I have never taken a strike or passed AC through an extended hiatus, and I'm around pretty much always.

House: Freyr, he's a bit loyal to it.
Weapon of Choice: When he does fight his most used weapons are firearms. However, he is proficient enough with self-defense and methods of incapacitating, even killing people in hand-to-hand combat if necessary. Small knives are also used often, but if you place most weapons in his hand he knows what to do with it, and if he doesn't he'll learn as fast as he can to use it properly.
Power: Bardic Influence, Level 2.
Leadership Experience: Eyes has had to learn how to fight for survival for almost as long as he can remember, being hunted down alongside his many half-brothers and sisters. While he did not join them right away in defense training, he nevertheless had a natural talent and instinct for violence that was eventually honed when he was in his late childhood, under the training of Special Forces member Evangeline Hilbert and her son, Kanone Hilbert, who also happened to be Eyes' half-brother and his best friend. Alongside Kanone, the two led the Blade Children through battle with Eyes being the one relied upon to organize, create strategies and plan various escape routes if needed. After Kanone's betrayal, Eyes stepped up to the unofficial role of leader flawlessly and placed all of his efforts into ensuring the survival of those under his care, regardless of if they liked him or not and how hostile some of them could be to him. He is not above placing tasks upon those he knows he can trust them with, and teamwork is of great emphasis to him because he long ago realized the flaws of working completely alone. He always plans several strategies and preparations in advance even as the situation changes while also being able to think on the fly, and places the safety and survival of those on his side first above all,. However, even if he is willing to take the blow for another comrade he will fight to the death to ensure he is standing long enough to see everyone all right, thus endangers himself if he sees little other option.
With his ability to keep his emotions in check nearly all the time Eyes is able to stand back up and focus on the task on hand, even if he is suffering a deep personal blow. This makes him ideal as a middleman in discussions with his ability to think clearly, and while he is very good with negotiation and being a liaison between parties of varying ideologies, if push comes to shove he's willing to twist arms and even play dirty if deemed absolutely necessary in order to protect those in his care and those he considers his own. He takes any expectations of himself very seriously regardless of what position he is in and if he receives recognition or not.
Length of Residency: Since the game opened, December 2011.
Activity: Activity record is here, I try to keep it updated whenever possible, and I've never taken a strike since joining the game.
Time Zone: PST, GMT -7. I'm usually available afternoons and evenings, but can be contacted almost any time.
Contact: plurk: aranell | aim: alsenei, PMs to this journal work the best.
Re: Captain Applications
House: Heimdall, living in Freyr district
Weapon of Choice: Castiel prefers his angelsword over all, and is easily the best swordfighter in SPN; he wins every single fight he has where both sides are using an angelsword, even when he's fighting two on one. He's also a great shot with his pistol, and adept at throwing knives, which he uses at Asgard instead of throwing his sword as he usually does at home since he doesn't have telekinesis to retrieve it anymore.
Power: Damage Drain, level three. I think he's the most experienced user of it in the game/was the first to reach level three in this power but I'm not completely sure.
Leadership Experience: Castiel is, surprisingly enough, a natural at leading despite his complete inability to act like a normal person in most social situations. He was originally a garrison captain after his former captain--his sister Anna--left Heaven, and he successfully lead his team through Hell itself. Later on he because a general, leading half of Heaven in a civil war, which his side did eventually win. He's a better strategist than actual commander, but when he chooses to he commands a lot of attention and many are quick to follow him. He leads from the front, always in the midst of the fighting himself, and isn't particularly forceful with his subordinates the few times we see him deal with them; he gives orders and then trusts them to do their thing. In Asgard itself he lead the medic corps during Ragnarok, and has also been teaching his power with the Teacher's Council for a long while now.
Length of Residency: He arrived the first day, and he was gone for about a month and a half of IC time a few months ago but then returned.
Activity: I got a strike once for forgetting to reply to AC like the second month oops and was on hiatus last month, but otherwise I usually make AC very easily.

Question! These meetings you mentioned (the mostly handwaved ones - so this question might not matter), would they be closed off only to this group or could well a meaning artistic type crash them occasionally?
