[This time, the recording starts with a long, drawn out sigh. Then, surprisingly, it's still Merlin's voice that rattles off the voicemail in tones of long-suffering.]

Hello, you've reached King Arthur Pr--Pendragon. He isn't here to answer your call because he's incredibly important and busy. If you leave a message here with me, I'll make sure he gets it because I am a good servant--and friend-- [he adds the last bit in a rush, accompanied with a thwap!, an 'ow!' and an 'I heard that,' then forces the rest of the words out through gritted teeth] and will do anything my master asks of me.

[A couple seconds pass, then Merlin speaks again, this time sounding a bit further away, like he isn't speaking into the bracelet anymore.] There, happy now? If you ask me, the other one is still better-- Shut up, Merlin. It's time to do yours next. Wait, what --

[ click! ]

[You've been... pretty quiet. Is this concern here?]

[She's a little angry at you, but there's something else here and she's not sure which.]

... [Regina's soft sigh can be heard.]

[But she stares at her bracelet for a while; she's not even sure what she wants to ask- wait. No, she does, she doesn't want to say it, it would make her look too emotional, of course.]

[Where have you been?]

["Silence is deafening". Regina will just... crawl back into whatever little hobble she has at the moment. She tried, but she isn't sure what to say. That she's worried, hurt, and angry with you.]

[ He's only just returned from his brief respite in Utgard this morning, but it's been some time. Do not show cowardice, Arthur Pendragon, their conflict can be resolved. ]

Regina. [ A gentle exhale. ] You know I know not your tongue. Are you well?

...

[She's silent again; either purposefully or honestly unsure how she should phrase her words. Regardless if he knows her mother's tongue or not, Regina continues - "does it matter to you?"]

[A pause and Regina ignores the question]

You've been quiet.

[ He pauses himself - she is avoiding his words - and exhales softly before answering. ]

Much has happened in recent days. I was away for a time; Merlin and I took a venture to the forests of Utgard. The man is useless for hunting.

[She eyes him for a while. She's not sure what she could expect from him; she left him hanging in a completely upsetting way. It would be selfish to be angry that he didn't do more to help her, but she is. Some restraints. She could be very mean right now, but she holds her tongue. Regina chews inside of the mouth, ignoring his joke.]

The little one tells me he is with you and your sister.

He is.

[ Though what that means, exactly, depends on whom you ask. Arthur knows what having Mordred under his care means for him, but he can't speak for what Regina may be thinking. Still, he tries not to sound guarded. He cannot predict her actions; this, she made him all too aware of. ]

Mordred came to Morgana, and we both felt he would be safest under our protection. No harm shall come to him under my - our watch.

[ Quick to amend. This is not about him, and he is not alone in this. ]

[Regina is skeptical. Thankfully, he can't see the doubtful look on her face.]

Then I wish to be there.

Don't take it as if I've forgiven you or become soft on you.

[The latter is a lie.]

I would never presume any such thing.

[ He's fairly certain there are none that will forgive him, even when he is King. ]
